Strategy and execution
Why good strategies fail in the real world
The plan may be intelligent and the market opportunity real. But unless the operating model, customer journey and leadership rhythm change together, strategy remains a presentation.
Thinking
I do not believe in posting for the sake of visibility. This is a developing library of practical commercial thinking shaped by customers, teams, difficult markets and more than three decades of delivery.
The most useful leadership ideas are rarely slogans. They are frameworks that help a team see a challenge more clearly, make a better choice and convert that choice into action.
These pieces will be published selectively, when there is something worth saying. Case studies remain the primary evidence; the thinking library explains the judgement behind them.
Strategy and execution
The plan may be intelligent and the market opportunity real. But unless the operating model, customer journey and leadership rhythm change together, strategy remains a presentation.
Customer-led growth
A business becomes customer-led when customer truth changes priorities, meetings, measures and investment decisions—not when the phrase appears on a wall.
Leadership through change
Cost control matters. So does protecting the capability, proposition and confidence that the business will need when conditions improve.
Capability building
The objective is stronger leaders, clearer systems and teams capable of sustaining momentum after the initial change programme has finished.
“Strategy should survive contact with customers, colleagues and commercial reality.”
